Remember how when the street lights came home, you had to be in the house? Or if your parents were not home all of the neighbors were on watch to ensure that you didn’t do anything dangerous, have guest, or just be foolish?
And how everyone knew eachother not just by face but by name and generations.
Well times have changed and now the person living next door may be a distant stranger who doesn’t know your name unless they receive a piece of your mail by accident.
NOW, this is the reality which we experience in 2013. Parents are struggling to balance work and family life. Children are trying to discover how they fit in the maze of life. The education, economic, and government systems are becoming more rigid with less resources and the WE ALL are left to make it work.
GUESS WHAT WE CAN if we RECREATE the VILLAGE.
We have to help eachother by first learning who is living in our communities. Who are are the people that are loved ones are involved, where are children are spending their time, what legislators are proposing, and what teachers are doing in the classroom.
We have to turn the televisions off and sitdown to observe and discuss the reality of our lives rather than what happened on Love and HipHop. We have to take note of events that are in place to raise awareness and funds for issues, illnesses, and organizations that are impacting our community members.
IT IS TIME that WE DECIDE to spent our time on building relationships with those around us to forge lasting support systems that elevate everyone. We have to come out to events regardless of the price to show that we are in support of the endeavors of others.
UNTIL WE STOP TALKING AND START ACTING things will continue to dismantle.
WILL YOU START THE VILLAGE IN YOUR AREA? WHERE WILL YOU BEGIN? HOW WILL YOU DO IT? CAN YOU BRING OTHERS INTO THE NETWORK SO WE CAN MAKE LIFE WORK WITHOUT THE NEED OF A NET?
